A five year framework for cooperation on manufacturing and joining technologies for fusion applications.
AMAZEMET has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Fusion for Energy (F4E), the EU organisation responsible for Europe’s contribution to ITER and other major fusion projects. The agreement was signed by Marc Lachaise, Director of F4E, and Łukasz Żrodowski, CEO of AMAZEMET.
The Memorandum sets a bilateral framework for cooperation in five areas:
- Technical knowledge exchange and best practices on advanced materials and manufacturing methods for fusion applications
- Fusion specific requirements for materials and manufacturing solutions
- Development of manufacturing, joining and coating technologies for fusion relevant applications
- Testing and qualification, including heat flux testing
- Fusion relevant material codes and standards
The agreement follows F4E’s Call for Expression of Interest for private sector fusion initiatives, opened in 2024 to bring companies and F4E closer together on shared technical challenges.
Fusion places some of the hardest requirements we know on metal feedstock and on the joining of dissimilar materials. Components facing the plasma combine refractory metals with copper alloy heat sinks, and the joint between them has to survive cyclic heat loads that would destroy most engineered interfaces. That makes fusion a strategic development area for AMAZEMET, and one where our work on powder production, material synthesis and bonding meets a real requirement rather than a hypothetical one.
The cooperation involves no transfer of funding between the parties. Specific technical activities will be defined in separate agreements as the collaboration develops.
AMAZEMET was founded in 2019 as a spin-off of Warsaw University of Technology. The company has delivered over 80 systems worldwide, processed 389 alloys and holds 16 patents. Its equipment is in use at institutions including NASA, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Fraunhofer, TU Munich.
