Challenges of HEAs/CCAs Atomization
High-Entropy Alloys (HEAs) and Compositionally Complex Alloys (CCAs) have become prominent subjects of investigation within materials science due to their potential to achieve unique combinations of properties. While substantial research focuses on the characterization and performance of these materials, considerably less attention is given to the challenges associated with their feedstock production.
This presentation will examine critical aspects of atomizing HEAs and CCAs, including the influence of alloy composition, viscosity, surface tension, volatile elements, and refractory constituents on powder formation processes. Drawing from practical experience in ultrasonic atomization projects, the presentation will include case studies related to refractory HEAs for fusion reactor applications and HEAs developed for hydrogen storage systems.
The talk will highlight the importance of considering processing and manufacturability aspects during the alloy design stage to support the successful industrial implementation of HEAs and CCAs.
